Lectures and workshops · Full day (6h) · Up to 6 participants

You want to run futures sessions yourselves? A one day Method Lab gives you a basic understanding of a foresight model from a facilitators point of view, giving you a start on exploring it in your work

This suits you if…

  • You want to build internal futures capability rather than depend on a external facilitator.
  • You attended a futures session and want to dive deeper into how it works, not just how to participate in it.
  • Your organisation wants to get started on futures work but are uncertain what that entails – by learning one method you can do a low-stakes test to see how it lands in your team.
What you take home
  • Deep dive on the particular method you want to learn.
  • A working session where you get to practice it on each other.
  • Facilitation reference guide built with insights from the days sessions, delivered afterwards.
  • Access to the Hintlab online workshop planning tool for a year.
What happens

Before booking, we'll have a short call to align on which method you want to learn, who'll be attending, and what you want to get out of the day.

The day covers: A deep dive into how the particular method works, its strengths and weaknesses, what it can be applied to and what you can expect as an outcome. I'll share typical combinations of workshop methods, basic facilitation scheduling and blocking, how to handle common failures and different participants, as well as variations on the method depending on your usecase.

The day is focused on doing rather than watching: Participants learn the mechanics of a foresight method and then get to apply it by running sessions with each other. The facilitation guide I deliver afterwards is based on what you actually did during the day, so it reflects your insights rather than a generic template.

The day does not cover organisational strategy, innovation management, or how to embed futures thinking into a broader programme, but insofar as you require it we'll see how the methods can be adapted to your needs and conditions.

A note on expectations: One day of practice gives you working familiarity with a futures method and the ability to plan a session of your own. Adapting it to different groups and contexts takes experience — but if you use the methods regularly, you'll become a more confident and versatile facilitator. For those who want structured feedback at a later point, I offer an optional 90-minute follow-up session after your first independently facilitated session.
